August 8-13, XC Season Starts

We had a good time at Sentinel Relays on Saturday and a fun time at the Hall house Saturday night.  Thanks to all of the athletes that showed up and participated, and thanks to the parents who provided rides and support, and yummy food for after.

Thanks to all of you athletes who have put in a good effort this summer with your training.  We are down to the final week of summer practices.  Next week we will be full on into the season and practice will be mandatory and mileage will no longer need to be reported weekly.  However, you need to continue to log training every day.

The XC season officially starts this week.  Eligibility is due on the 10th.  Those who do not have their edibility completed by this date will not be allowed to compete or attend practices until it is finished.  Please get this taken care of ASAP if you haven't done so already.

Along with getting paperwork completed and submitted, the mileage requirement found on both the Eligibility page above and the team disclosure on RMA needs to be completed. This was your tryout! Please go back on RMA and read this disclosure as parents and athletes so you are aware of team rules and expectations for athletes and parents.  We mentioned at the parent meeting back in May that ALL requirements would need to be met to be on the team this year and that we were upping the expectations and holding to them.  The reality is, that some of the athletes that started the summer with us or even attended team camp, might not make the team this season. If you have taken care of all of these requirements and will be able to hit the at least the minimum mileage requirements than you will be on the team.

Just so parents and athletes are clear on this, part of the reason we have athletes report weekly is so we can give feedback to those who might be behind or need extra help, and we have been letting athletes know where they stood in this regards, weekly, for over 6 weeks now.  In addition, coaches have had personal conversations with athletes and parents, athletes have all been given access to the spreadsheet where the coaching staff records mileage, we even prorated mileage for any possible injuries etc., we have had practice 5 days a week all summer, and even allotted for a probationary period if athletes are close but can't quite make the minimum requirements for various reasons. Communication has been there and plenty of opportunities have been given, so there is no excuse for athletes, that made any kind of real efforts this summer to do what they were asked (at or away from practices), to not make the team.  But there will be some that still do not make it this year!

We will have a team dinner hosted by the Jorgensen family on Friday August 12 at 6:00pm at 14133 Ensign Peak Circle, athletes are encouraged to bring $2 to contribute.

Time Trials will be at the HS Track next Monday Night.  Practices will be held at 3:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m. daily (with occasional Saturday morning practices) from Time Trials to the end of the season.  Coach Barnes will be giving out uniforms the first two days following Time Trials, and proof of payment will be required.
