Congrats to Jaren Barnes, Lance Belcher, Grace Waite, Zarah Wiet, and Nikki Phipps for receiving the 6A Academic All-State awards last week.

Congrats to Jaren Barnes for being awarded the America First Credit Union, KJZZ, KMYU Scholar Athlete Scholarship!  Jaren will be on Talkin Sports on Sunday night.

State Championships and JV State

State Championships will be held on Tuesday this week at Salt Lake Regional Sports Complex (2280 N. Rose Park Lane).

Our Girls will race at 3:30 p.m. and our Boys at 4:30 p.m..

The bus will leave the HS at 1:00 p.m..  Remember, that the priority is to come and support our competing varsity runners, not just to socialize. Coach Barnes will cover your entrance fees. Please come ready to cheer and wear your Sentinel gear.  It should be nice fall weather, but dress appropriately.

Spectator info will be posted at the bottom of this post.

We will have a team dinner on Monday for State participants and the entire team at 5:00 p.m., (5076 W. Leila Lane).

There is a JV State Championship that is being held on Saturday October 28th at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex.  If those  alternates and others who have been training would like to run at this let Coach Barnes know by Monday, if you haven't already,  so he can get registration and entry fees taken care of.  We will not be taking a bus, so transportation is on your own.

Spectators will be charged for parking to enter the venue. Fans will not be able to enter the venue without parking the facility. Vehicles with two-or-less individuals inside the car will be charged $10; vehicles with three-or-more individuals will be charged $20. RV’s and other oversize vehicles will be charged at $40, due to the use of multiple parking spots. Vehicles will be issued wristbands at the entrance gates for the corresponding numbers of individuals inside the vehicle. Parking passes can be purchased on the UHSAA GoFan online ticket portal at https://gofan.co/app/school/UHSAA or purchased at the gate. A convenience credit card fee will be charged as part of the purchase. There will be no cash option for purchase. It is advised for everyone to prepurchase parking passes to allow for faster parking and entrance into the facility.

Individuals who hold UHSAA Annual Passes will show the pass at the parking lot entry gate to receive wristbands for them and another individual.

Patrons and teams are encouraged to leave after their respective awards ceremonies to allow more parking for patrons and team busses. There will be a parking attendant at the exit gate to ensure people do not enter the facility through an alternate route.

Schools who are planning on bringing student support busses will drop off students in the team parking entry and will be charged $5 per student who enters through the gate. UHSAA personnel will provide entry wristbands for these individuals.

"Assistance to Competitors
Coaches, please educate the members of your team, their parents and others that will come to support your student athletes that per rule 9-7-4 it is a disqualification for a competitor who receives any assistance from another person. The most common form of the violation of this rule is when a non-competitor runs along side a competitor during the race (pacing). This has been a problem in the past. It would be unfortunate to have to
disqualify a runner for the actions of someone not in the race. Please help by informing those who will be there to support your team. Also, any runner who assists another runner will also be disqualified."

State Prep and October 16 - 21

The Divisionals were this past week and we weren't 100%, but we ended up getting both Girls and Boys teams qualified for State.   Both teams will compete at State on Tuesday October 24 at Rose Park Sports Complex.  Girls race at 3:30pm and Boys at 4:30pm.

We do appreciate those who came to support and the athletes always appreciate the after races treats and those who bring them.

This is for those interested in going to Foot Locker/Hoka in California November 30-December 3, please fill out this form HERE. Please fill this out ASAP, we need to know who is going for sure.  The cost depends on the amount of kids going.  If we have 30 kids the trip will cost approximately $80 more per kid than if we have 40 kids going.  The bus is what is so expensive. But the hotel is already asking for our numbers too. We had several athletes that said they can go trip, but several of those have bailed already, and others have claimed they can now go.  We need some solid commitments, not a bunch of wishy washy stuff. We need to get some solid commitments this week.  We would love for all of you that can to go.

Once you have committed to go with a hard yes or a yes, but I need to figure out how to raise funds, you have committed.  Once we are past State we have paid for the bus and hotel rooms, and sometimes even the JSD insurance for each person, and we usually cannot change or cancel within 30-40 days of leaving.  If you cancel after this time, you will be responsible for either finding a replacement or pay part of all of the cost.  Everyone's cost is dependent on the number of people we have going. If this situation occurs you will need to talk to Coach Barnes and see what can be done.

Fall Break is coming up next week and so is the end of the quarter, but State is also next week.  Make sure your grades are in order so you are not missing practice time to take care of school work that should be taken care of during school time.

We would like to take most of the team, (those who have been coming to practice still), to State on Tuesday next week.  If you are going out of town that fine, but we need to support those running at State, so if you are in town please come and support and cheer.  We will take one bus.

JV State will be at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex on Saturday October 28 for those runner who do not compete at State.  Let Coach Barnes know if you want to run at that race.  We will not take a bus.

Our Awards Banquet is scheduled for November 15 at 7:00 p.m.

Divisionals and October 9-14

Region Championships were a little on the rough side for us this year as a whole, and we have a lot of room for improvement.  We did have Cailey Bracken (3rd) and Brooklyn Tarr (5th) place top 10 in the varsity girls race.  The Girl's team ended up 3rd place and the Boy's were 5th.  As a whole we saw improvements from most athletes from pre-Region to Region, but we should see big improvements from almost 100% of the athletes because that is the beginning vs. the end of the season.  We seemed to struggle competing in this race, but hopefully a lesson is learned and we can move forward and be more competitive in our future races.

Divisional Champions are Tuesday morning for us.  This is how we qualify for State!  HERE is the link to the 6A pairings for each race Our Girl's team races in the 6A B race at 9:40am and Boy's race in the 6A B race at 10:00am.  Top 7 teams in each A and B races will go to State on October 24th.

Bus leave time is set for 7:15 a.m.   Normally Coach Barnes will excuse the top 10 boys and girls for Tuesday, and only those other athletes on the team that have continued to come to practice everyday since Region (several athletes have already quit, which is always disappointing), but all are welcome as long as you are there to cheer and support the team.

Thanks to the Belcher, Hall, D'Orlando, and Sayre families for hosting our dinner last week.  Thanks to the parents who brought after race treats for the athletes on Wednesday at the Region Championships! And we especially thank those who came to support and cheer on the athletes at Region!

Team Banquet is still TBA because of scheduling conflicts, but is usually the 2nd week in November.

Region Championships and October 2-7

This week is the Region Champions.  For some of you JV runners this might be your last XC race depending on how the post season turns out.  The goal is for everyone to give their very best effort of the season so far.  Time to take all of that time and training and put to use.  This should be your focus the next couple of days!

We will have a team dinner on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (13446 S River Rose Lane, Riverton), hosted by the Belcher, Sayre, Hall, and D'Orlando families, athletes can bring $2 to contribute.

Those who wish to get credit from Coach Barnes for PE for doing the season, or those who might be in line for a Varsity Letter award, need to plan on being at practice at least through Divisionals (October 10th) next week.  Those who would like to keep training with those going to who will be going to State and those who will be alternates, are welcome to come as long as you are there to train and not just socialize and mess around.

Those interested in going to Foot Locker/Hoka in California November 30-December 3, please fill out this form HERE.  There are still a lot of you who haven't answered either way, so please do so.  We are not going to make this trip if we do not have enough people to fill the bus at least most of the way.  Thanks to those who have already answered!
